Reporting

It is crucial to report any safeguarding concerns to My Tutor Studio, so our Safeguarding Team can investigate thoroughly. All concerns will be addressed within 24 hours of receiving the report.

Guidance for Reporting:

  • Use of Forms: Remember that safeguarding concern forms may be used as evidence in court cases and inquests. Reports should be objective and detailed.
  • Access Issues: Contact a My Tutor Studio team member for assistance with making a report by email or phone call.
  • Timeliness: Alert the team as soon as possible, as it can take several hours to handle even urgent concerns. The sooner we start, the better.

Disclosure

Once a disclosure or concern is shared, the Safeguarding Team will:

  • Evaluate: Consider the information, seek advice if necessary, and decide on the appropriate action, which may include:
    • Keeping detailed records with no further action at this time
    • Liaising with the host school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
    • Making a child protection referral to Children’s Social Care
    • Making a police referral
    • Referring to an Early Help service (with consent from the child/family)

Immediate Harm: If a child is suffering or likely to suffer harm, make an immediate referral to Children’s Social Care and, if appropriate, the police. Follow up the referral in writing within 24 hours.

Emergency Responses

If a child is at immediate risk of harm:

  • Tutors: Contact the Designated Safeguarding Lead immediately.
  • Designated Safeguarding Lead: Contact the Police using 911.
  • Acknowledgment: Within one working day, a local authority social worker should acknowledge receipt and decide on the next steps.

For tuition delivered in schools or colleges, inform the school’s DSL of any safeguarding concerns.

Allegations Against Staff

My Tutor Studio is committed to reporting concerns or allegations against its staff, tutors, volunteers, or contractors. This includes:

  • Immediate Reporting: Report allegations to My Tutor Studio’s DSL. Allegations against the DSL should be reported to another senior member of the leadership team, who will appoint a suitable replacement to handle the matter.

Situations to Report:

  • Behaving in a way that has harmed or may harm a child
  • Committing a criminal offence against or related to a child
  • Indicating a risk of harm to children, or unsuitability to work with children

Investigation: My Tutor Studio will deal with allegations promptly, referring concerns to the local authority designated officer (LADO) as per local safeguarding procedures and statutory guidance. Suspension (without prejudice) may be considered if there is cause to suspect that a child is at risk from continued contact with the individual.

Duty to Report

Under legal duties, My Tutor Studio will report concerns about unsafe practices by directors, staff, or tutors to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) if an individual:

  • Has harmed or is likely to harm a child
  • Poses a risk of harm to a child

Learning Lessons

My Tutor Studio is committed to learning from safeguarding incidents and improving procedures.

Low-Level Concerns

My Tutor Studio fosters a culture where all concerns, including low-level concerns, are addressed promptly.

Dismissal or Resignation: If a director, staff member, or tutor is dismissed or leaves due to relevant conduct, a referral to the DBS will be made by the DSL.
