My Tutor Studio is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals under the age of 18 who utilize our platform. In compliance with relevant safeguarding legislation in Canada and the USA, we have implemented stringent vetting and recruitment processes for our staff and tutors.
All tutors must successfully pass an interview before being admitted onto the platform. Each tutor is also subject to periodic lesson observations as a secondary control.
Tutors are required to provide proof of at least one type of identification during their interview process. Acceptable documents include:
- Canada: Canadian passport, Permanent Resident Card, birth certificate, adoption certificate, marriage or civil partnership certificate, and driver's license.
- USA: US passport, Permanent Resident Card, birth certificate, adoption certificate, marriage or civil partnership certificate, and driver's license.
These documents will be verified by the My Tutor Studio interviewer.
My Tutor Studio requires all tutors to self-declare their physical and mental fitness to deliver lessons by signing the Terms and Conditions.
My Tutor Studio discusses the candidates' employment history from the age of 16 during the interview. We verify university placements using the tutor's declaration of grades and obtain valid references as a secondary control. Any gaps or inconsistencies are noted and explained.
Safeguarding Training (including Prevent and Online Safety training)My Tutor Studio believes that training and raising awareness of safeguarding issues, policies, and procedures is fundamental to the development and maintenance of a safer environment, organization, and staff/tutors.
Key Training Areas:
- Preventing abuse.
- Recognizing abuse.
- Recording concerns.
- Responding appropriately to allegations of abuse.
- Knowing who to tell and when information can be shared.
Safeguarding training is a mandatory element of all inductions for staff and tutors, with knowledge refreshed annually. This includes training under the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015 (USA) and equivalent Canadian regulations to prevent individuals from being drawn into terrorism.
Online SafetyMy Tutor Studio recognizes the potential risks associated with the online world. All staff are trained to recognize online harms and report concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL). My Tutor Studio keeps a record of all training completed and has a "pass rate" record to confirm the status of all courses.
Online SearchesAs part of My Tutor Studio's due diligence and commitment to safeguarding, we may conduct online searches on shortlisted candidates and tutors to ascertain information that may need to be explored further at interview or pre-appointment. All information logged will comply with GDPR and data protection laws.
Commitment to Fair TreatmentMy Tutor Studio undertakes to treat all applicants fairly and not discriminate based on race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, responsibilities for dependents, age, physical/mental disability, or offending background. We ensure that all recruitment processes and decisions comply with relevant legislation.
